OUR FRIENDS Useful Links

See below for some businesses and organisations ('Allies') who, like us, are dedicated to bringing you the best WW1 modelling products, tools and references, and who we are happy to recommend.

Over The Front

In our opinion the finest WW1 aviation journal - essential reading and never fails to delight and impress. Back issues available on request from the site or from Aviattic (limited stocks) in the UK.

Iron Cross Magazine

An excellent publication focusing on German WW1 and WW2 military history. So far the subject of WW1 aviation has been admirably represented - long may it continue!

Windsock Data File Specials / Albatros Productions

Ray Rimell has towered over the world of WW1 aviation modelling for five decades, leading the way for model companies and publishers alike - almost single-handedly at times flying the flag for our beloved subject and earning the whole community's respect, affection and admiration.

His tireless efforts have helped create a thriving model, decal, accessory and publications bonanza today, compared with the slim pickings of Ray's (and many of ours!) childhood.

In our view, this simply would not have happened had it not been for Albatros Productions. Hundreds of the indespensible "Datafile" series, penned - if not by Ray - by some of the world's leading experts. Also, the Wingnut Wings build specials. The bi-monthly "Windsock" journals - now, sadly, overtaken by the relentless noise of the Internet, full of well illustrated factual articles as well as modelling builds, "how to's" and reviews - some of which featured Aviattic products, we are proud to say. Back issues available from Albatros and some (limited) from Aviattic.

Aeronaut Books

Jack Herris' monumental series of quality volumes cover many rare and fascinating aspects of WW1 aviation, as well as the more familiar types, with photos drawn from some of the world's best collections (including mine!) and many surprises in each new release!

Colin Owers and Bruno Schmaling are among the luminaries who have contributed volumes to this impressive labour of love, and all publications are the work of the very best in the field.

Highly recommended as a first "go to" reference point, this easy-to-read and nicely illustrated series are printed "on demand" via Amazon or Aeronaut Books.

The Great War Aviation Society

Formerly known as Cross & Cockade International, the C&C journal (and its defunct US equivalent) are a "must-have" in any serious WW1 aviation enthusiasts library. Journal now redesigned and renamed "Contact!".

Articles of recent years have not flinched from exploring lesser known aspects of the air war and the reader is rewarded by thoroughly studying each each issue.

Back issues of C&C available from the GWAS and some (limited) from Aviattic.

Taurus Models

Łukasz Laskowski weaves his magic again after a short lay-off and is intent on defying the laws of physics yet more with an "improved" (!) range of resin cast engines and accessories.

Engels Aeroplanbau

"My intention is to promote interest in German WW1 aviation history and set up a small aviation museum."

"Focus is on German aviation technology and particularly the work of the manufacturer, Anthony Fokker. The technical details are featured with replicas of aircraft parts. Full aircraft are also part of the museum. We have several aircraft in different stages of construction: Two Fokker Dr.I, one Fokker D.VIII and one Fokker D.VII, as well as the prototype of the D.VI (the V.9). I offer the opportunity to participate in the construction of these aircraft. Also part of the collection are flying aircraft. Amongst these are one Fokker E.III, one Fokker D.VII and one Fokker D.VIII. These three aircraft are on long term loan to the OMAKAH AVIATION HERITAGE CENTER of New Zealand. They will eventually return to Germany in airworthy condition. To house these aircraft in our future museum, we do need a new rooftop that also spans across the courtyard of our two barns. In case of interest please contact me."

Copper State Models

Copper State Models had established themselves as one of the finest manufacturers of high-quality World War One kits, with plenty more to come!

The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre has combined a rare collection of WW1 and WW2 aircraft with creative display techniques to present a remarkable experience that captures the imagination.

Omaka is a world-class destination for appreciating historic aircraft and sharing the stories of the men and women behind the machines.

The Vintage Aviator

"Our primary aim is to build WW1 aircraft, engines and propellers to the same exacting standards they were originally made over 90 years ago."
